Walking Ceremony.

This probably make no sense whatsoever to non Maldivians. So I'll explain. Whenever a baby is old enough they are placed on a coconut, (while being held) they, (of course) slip off and that is there ifficial first time walking/on the floor. Then we eat coconuts. *yummy* ((Ok, it's like, not hardened coconut, the kind with water and...Heva in it.. Heva is...in english, I guess, the fleshy stuff?)) The ceremony is usually on - WAIT.

  1. Ooo, interesting. I just call the Heva, flesh. I never heard of it called Heva but I don't live in Maldives :) My mom and I love coconuts but they're rather expensive over here.

  2. *gasp* coconuts are expensive? Here you can get it super cheap... and in the islands you can find them just lying about. yeah. it's hard to think of them as expensive... And yeah, Heva is a Maldivian word. Sorry about the WAIT. I'll explain. Really. No, seriously, I will.

  3. I'm still waiting :) Yeah, coconuts are expensive. You can't find them lying around here, it's much too cold. In my state. Plus it's really far to have them shipped, hence the expense. (I made a rhyme! :P )
